WHO WE ARE

Making Our Children Safe Again Foundation (MOCSA) is a registered non-profit organization in Liberia, dedicated to creating a safe and dignified future for all children in the country. Established in September 2019, MOCSA operates independently and remains politically and denominationally neutral. The foundation is officially recognized by various government entities, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation.

Liberia, a nation still recovering from the consequences of a ten-year civil war, faced unexpected challenges in the form of the Ebola epidemic in 2014 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. These crises have exacerbated the struggles faced by women and children, leaving them without adequate welfare and social protection. Many single parents are overwhelmed, experiencing a loss of moral values and lacking the resources to support their children, making it impossible to finance their education.

With approximately two million children under the age of 18 affected in a country with a population of around five million, Liberia’s future is at stake. The vulnerability of Liberian children to preventable diseases is a significant concern, and the country also experiences high rates of maternal mortality and deaths of children under the age of 5. Addressing these issues is crucial for the sustainable development of Liberia.

MOCSA’s primary objective is to ensure a safe and dignified future for all children, regardless of their ethnicity, socio-economic background, religion, culture, or social status. To achieve this, MOCSA plans to establish collaborations with diverse partners, including donors, philanthropists, community groups, and volunteers. By working together with these stakeholders, MOCSA aims to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of Liberia’s children, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the country.

Mandate

  • MOCSA’s mandate is self-given and stems from the devastation and extreme socio-economic vulnerability faced by underserved and disadvantaged communities and persons, especially in rural Liberia. Trends in Liberia’s recent development show all sectors are negatively impacted by the crises in the past and the prevailing socio-economic situation.
  • MOCSA works in areas of Cape Mount, Margibi and Montserrado counties where children’s access to education and health care is limited. MOCSA’s focus is on the less fortunate, such as street and disabled children and their families.
